Soulflow Series: Backbends & Heart-Opening

Updated: Jul 26, 2023

Backbends serve as a gateway to heart-opening, as they expand our chests and lift our hearts, empowering us to make a connection with our emotions and nurturing a sense of self-compassion. This practice allows us to embrace vulnerability, breaking free from emotional rigidity and opening ourselves to a broader emotional spectrum. Backbends aren't just spinal bends, they invite emotional liberation and growth.

Backbends that encourage heart-opening:

  • Cobra - stretches the chest and opens the heart, encouraging emotional release and self-compassion. It fosters a sense of vulnerability, allowing emotions to surface and be embraced.

  • Upward Facing Dog - strengthens the back and arms while expanding the chest. It encourages us to connect with our emotions and cultivate self-love and acceptance.

  • Bridge Pose - opens the chest and hip flexors, creating space for the heart to lift and expand. It promotes emotional liberation and growth, allowing us to release any emotional rigidity.

  • Camel Pose - deeply opens the heart and stretches the entire front body. It invites us to embrace vulnerability, unlocking a broader emotional spectrum and a greater connection with ourselves.

  • Wheel Pose - offers an intense heart-opening experience, breaking free from emotional restrictions and encouraging courage and self-expression.

  • Fish Pose - expands the chest and throat, promoting emotional release and helping us to connect with our inner emotions.

  • Bow Pose - heart-opening backbend that stretches the entire front body, fostering self-compassion and emotional openness.

  • Wild Thing - playful backbend that encourages emotional liberation and growth, inviting us to explore our emotions with curiosity and openness.

  • Dancer's Pose - opens the heart while challenging our balance and stability, inspiring emotional courage and self-expression.
